Paul McCartney solo career

Paul McCartney, formerly of the Beatles, is considered the most successful artist of all time. His solo career started immediately after the break-up of the Beatles with his debut solo album, McCartney. The hit song Maybe I'm Amazed is from this album. Follow-ups to his debut solo include Ram, an album credited to him and his late wife, Linda. This album includes songs such as Too Many People, The Back Seat of My Car, and 3 Legs. After going solo, Paul and Linda McCartney started Wings. Famous hits from Wings include Jet, Band on the Run, Live and Let Die, and Silly Love Songs. He again went solo starting with McCartney II after his career with Wings which lasted about ten years. Paul McCartney still tours solo today. More than half of his set list is Beatles songs.

Oh! Darling

Oh! Darling is a song from the Beatles' 12th studio album, Abbey Road. It has hard, edgy rock influences. John Lennon said of the song, "Oh! Darling' was a great one of Paul's that he didn't sing too well. I always thought I could have done it better—it was more my style than his. He wrote it, so what the hell, he's going to sing it." I disagree with Lennon. I think this song was sung extremely well by McCartney, and I think it was more McCartney's style. I don't believe Lennon could have sung this song nearly as well as McCartney. Many people believe this song is about Lennon leaving the band because of Yoko Ono. McCartney was becoming very saddened at the time, and he sounds extremely anguished while singing the song, so this could be true. You decide for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikIEqikVMPo

Abbey Road Studios

Abbey Road Studios has been a haven for many artists for recording over the years. After it was renamed Abbey Road Studios (it was previously known as EMI studios) in 1970 after the album, Abbey Road came out, many famous artists started to record there. Other artists that have recorded there include a variety of different music. Pink Floyd, Green Day, Kanye West, Michael Jackson, and Oasis have all recorded there.

Led Zeppelin IV

Led Zeppelin IV, also referred to as The Four Symbols, Sticks, Zoso, and Untitled, was arguably Zeppelin's best album. After being accused of surviving only based on reputation, Jimmy Page and the other members of Zeppelin decided they would make a cover that underplayed their name. The album only had four symbols on the cover and the inside sleeve. The album sold extremely well and stayed at the top of the charts in the UK for months. It contains some of their most famous work such as Black Dog, Rock and Roll, and Stairway to Heaven. The album also contains five other great songs, including the Battle of Evermore, a song that makes references to Lord of the Rings. Led Zeppelin ranks as one of the best albums of all time. It is my personal favorite of Zeppelin's.

Purple Haze

Contrary to popular belief, this song is not about either the form of LSD referred to as purple haze or the type of marijuana referred to as purple haze. Jimi Hendrix was inspired to write this song after having a dream about being under the sea surrounded by a purple haze. He became lost and was terrified, but his faith in Jesus saved him. In the song, the lyric "excuse me while I kiss the sky" is often interpreted as "excuse me while I kiss that guy." Hendrix contributed to this misinterpretation by pointing at fellow band members while singing this live in concert. Overall, this song is one of the greatest of all time. It is considered by many to be Jimi Hendrix's best song. It is certainly one of the most popular.

How Do You Sleep?

The feud between Paul McCartney and John Lennon began during the recordings of the White Album. Yoko Ono first appeared at the studio during the recording sessions. Wives and girlfriends had previously never been allowed in the studio before, and the other Beatles were furious Lennon would bring Ono onto the set. Tension continued through the remaining years of the Beatles. Lennon said, "I always thought there was this underlying thing in Paul's 'Get Back.' When we were in the studio recording it, every time he sang the line, 'Get back to where you once belonged,' he'd look at Yoko." After the band broke up, tensions were even greater. During Lennon's solo career, he wrote a song called "How Do You Sleep?" about McCartney. It made references to him dying creatively. McCartney was hurt by this, especially when he learned of who was working on it: many of McCartney's friends, including former Beatle George Harrison.

Backspacer - Pearl Jam's latest album

Pearl Jam's new album Backspacer is much different than any of their previous albums. It has a new wave and pop influence to it, making it much different from their previous alternative albums that have had a darker feel to them. The band says that this is because they are happier now that Obama is president. I think that it is a good album even though it goes against their style in previous records. It is the best Pearl Jam album I've heard since their debut album, Ten.

Rubber Soul

This Beatles' album takes a much different look at love than the previous albums before it. Going against their typical themes of unrequited love and romantic approaches at love, this album includes references to adultery and revenge. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) tells the story about a man having an affair with a girl who has teased her, so the next morning he burns down her house in revenge. The last song of the album, Run For Your Life, tells about a very jealous man who tells his girl, "I'd rather see you dead than to be with another man." I think this album is the best album the Beatles had created up to that point.

Syd Barrett

Syd Barrett was the founding member of the psychedelic rock group, Pink Floyd, but he left the band in 1968. Barrett has a history of well-documented mental illness usually associated with his extreme drug abuse. In response to questions about Barrett's drug abuse, David Gilmour, guitarist and singer of Pink Floyd, said, "his nervous breakdown would have happened anyway. It was a deep-rooted thing. But I'll say the psychedelic experience might well have acted as a catalyst. Still, I just don't think he could deal with the vision of success and all the things that went with it." Barrett's mental illness inspired Pink Floyd's 1975 album, Wish You Were Here. His influence can be seen in the title of the two part song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

Worst Beatles Song Ever?

Run For Your Life, from the Beatles' sixth studio album, Rubber Soul, is considered by many to be the worst Beatles' song of all time. Even John himself said it was the song he most regretted. I, however like really like the song. It's one of my favorite Beatles songs ever made. I think Revolution 9 is the worst Beatles song, if you can even call it a song. Revolution 9 is more of a horrible mixture of seemingly unrelated soundbites. Other Beatles songs I don't like include Dizzy Miss Lizzy and many songs sung by Ringo, such as Boys, What Goes On, and Honey Don't. The worst of these, though, is Revolution 9, which comes from Yoko Ono's horrible inspiration on John Lennon that ruined the group. http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=10&p=7062&more=1&c=1

Term Check

1. Dynamic mic records a specific sound in a small area and a condenser mic is very sensitive and can pick up anything nearby.
2. It produces bad sound, and if it sounds good on a studio monitor it will sound good on anything.
3. It changes the sound from actual sound into an approximate binary representation so the computer can understand it.
4. It is the effect made when sound bounces off the wall. The amount of reverb depends on the size of the room.
5. Yes

Radio Doc

I am going to do an audio doc related to the Ravens. My dad runs a Raven's fan site and radio show for a living and has connections to people in the Raven's organization.
